Magic apprentice - character design

Winn is a character I made inspired by the moodboard from the Moodboardchallenge contest run by School of Games and Adobe.

He is a young magic student at the Moak School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!
This is a shot during his first flying lesson! The teacher wanted him to try a little ride but he suffers from vertigo!
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

At first I let my pencil wander in search of a face, guided by the words of the moodboard: clumsy, shy, nervous, worried.
Once found, I started to get to know the character through facial and body expressions. I also decided to create a raven friend for him, a familiar.
I explored different types of clothes, looking for shapes and details. In doing so I chose not to use all the elements from the moodboard, but selected a few that blended well together and reworked them.
In the end I fell in love with a sketch that convinced me because of its clearness: clothes that are not too elaborate, but tell a story, and an attitude that reflects the keywords of the moodboard: shy, nervous and worried.

And these are two more shots that complete Winn's first flying adventure!
